New autographed Clay Matthews release by Andy Goralski! Gallery Panels are created using the Giclée printing process . Each panel is hand enhanced by the artist and are of museum quality.  The image is reproduced using archival quality ink. The  panel is attached to a 1×2” frame, the sides are painted and the panel is ready to hang. Goralski panels are very durable and are designed to last.

We decided to ask Andy about his choice of titles.

Andy, why did you choose ‘Storm Chaser’ for this new Clay Matthew piece? Clay  has a few nicknames out there right now, ‘Claymaker’, ‘The Beast’, ‘Thor’ and even ‘Fabio’, why ‘Storm Chaser’?

Andy’s reply, “I like to have memorable titles for my work. Chaos and exuberance are qualities that define Clay Matthews. In this painting I wanted to show Clays reckless abandonment, contrasting with his unique facial features. This painting has qualities that both men and woman would like.

One of my favorite things to do is watch an approaching storm. The clouds take on a menacing shape.  The wind kicks up, things start blowing around. The air can be peaceful one minute and then the storm erupts. In my painting the storm represents the line of scrimmage, two opposing forces like hot and cold air clashing together. The players willingly ‘chase the storm’. The moment just before the storm approaches’ is reminiscent of the calm before the ball is hiked. The pocket or vortex is where all the action is. The center of the storm is the most dangerous. A ‘Storm Chaser’ likes to be part of this action. He is allured by the threat of danger, knowing if he goes into the storm he could get hurt. Yet for those who ‘tackle’ the storm, the rewards are great. The climax happens when Clay Matthews sacks the quarterback and the storms fury comes to an abrupt end leaving nothing left to cleanup but a fallen quarterback.”  Last but not least, Clay poses in his classic victory celebration.”

While Andy is adept in  many mediums but his medium of choice is pastels.  “Pastels can be hard to control and it can be difficult to maintain detail with them, although I’m convinced that the natural texture of a persons face cannot be achieved with other mediums” Andy explains. Each work is done one layer at a time. Andy begins by sanding a heavy-weight museum-quality paper until he achieves the proper “tooth.” He then meticulously layers pigments to achieve the desired effect.  Pastels are pure pigment, the same pigment used to manufacture oil and acrylic paints, without a liquid binder. Since they are not composed of liquid, pastels can last virtually forever. Acrylics and oils are subject to cracking and fading as they age.

Many of sports artist Andy Goralski editions have sold out but some can still be found on the secondary market.  Though some prints are difficult to find and may be priced today well above their original issue price. “Collect-ability” is a crucial part of Goralski’s portfolio and  he explains, “We want our collectors to benefit from a strong aftermarket. We sincerely hope that all editions will sell out; then our collectors have an opportunity to resell their prints for more than what they paid initially. Even if they choose not to resell their prints, they appreciate knowing that they have a piece of art that will increase in value.”

Andy also is kept busy with portraits, executive portraits and portraits with your favorite athlete or celebrity! Contact us for more information for your own Andy Goralski original painting!
